Simply but elegantly shot and edited, these informative films confirm that modern art can be about something that matters, an authentic form of self-expression about our place in the world. Taken together as a mini-series, it’s an approach with great educational potential.

Mark Halliley – Director BBC1’s Matisse Modern Masters

Drawing from their own artistic practice Marco and Stephanie facilitated a range of activities that helped us to tune back into an expressive freedom that we might have enjoyed as young children. As a result many new and interesting approaches to the teaching of art are beginning to emerge around the school.

Lizzie Overton – Head teacher
Lewes New School

I would recommend these exciting new films by Four Square to anyone with an interest in contemporary art. Thoughtfully crafted, they give a valuable insight into what it is to be an artist working today.

Patrick Marber – Playwright

I intend to show the Four Square Arts films to my students as examples of how gifted artists confront challenges and problems in their work in progress and of how issues of artistic production may be common to artists across different media.

Sue Roe – Lecturer and Author
of Gwen John, A Life

Inspiring! Lots of different teaching techniques to get you thinking. I can’t believe how much we did in one day. The day went very quickly. It was great to try so many media and focus on working methods, materials, techniques, rather than the end result.

Duncan - Architect

The arts training day was a major motivator for me to rethink our approaches to art and I am very excited by the changes I can now see within the children in terms of their confidence, expression and creativity.

Clare - Primary teacher

This is how I would describe the day. Focused, intense at times, a chance to experiment, free from judgment, confidence building, liberating, At the end of the day I was full of ideas and enthusiasm and felt equipped to take this back to the class.

Amanda -Kindergarten teacher

Four Square Arts Education

Over the past year we have been exploring and developing a number of activities that go beyond the traditional exhibiting remit of a commercial gallery. Many of our artists have an interest in art education, with experience either lecturing, or working directly with adults and young people. So added to our unfolding series, Four Square Films initiative, and planned program of artists talks and podcasts, we felt the time was right to launch this sister site focusing on our educational programme.

In our resource section we aim to create an open resource bank of inspirational articles, videos, lectures, and educational papers on the subject of creativity, which we hope you will enjoy
